We’re actively avoiding using any third party services wherever we can: you’ll find no Google Analytics or advertisements here, and we will not use external services to load components likes fonts.
That said, we do need a few external services and those are outlined below
Short version
- We collect the email addresses of our registered authors.
- We may collect anonymous statistics about your visit, like which of our pages you viewed. We store this on our own systems using the Open Source Matomo software. We have configured Matomo to discard the last two digits from your IP address.
- We do keep IP address information in our webserver logs for the purpose of abuse prevention. Our logs rotate every 14 days, deleting older information.
- We work with 3rd parties like CloudFlare and Amazon AWS SES. These may collect some personal information like your IP address, and will set cookies to enable their service. All our partners are GDPR compliant.
- If you sign up with us we take great care to keep your information safe and we’ll never share it with others without your express permission.
- We not share your data with 3rd parties except to help us deliver our own services.

DigitalOcean hosts our servers. They only store operational data and do not use your personal information for any other purposes than running our website and protecting their infrastructure. You can read their GDPR page for more information.
Cloudflare provides caching and an additional protection against hacks and DoS attacks. Cloudflare is very privacy focused, but does need to collect your IP information to run and protect their network. You can read their GDPR information here.
Amazon AWS SES handles all our outbound email. They only have access to your email address. Read their GDPR information.
